A day before the New Year, I decided to set up my handicraft work area.
Finally took out of Singer sewing machine that had been stored away for more than 10 years
I used to make all my creations on my dining table. But for 2017, I was inspired by my December 2016 family vacation trip in Hong Kong.
In Sham Shui Po, along the corner of Nam Cheong Street was a simple tailor shop. As small as the size of my bomb shelter at home, owned by a middle aged couple, my little A was fascinated by the cartoon fabric patterned tote bags hanging on the shop’s display. We could choose the fabric patterns available and the lady boss would sew it into the various tote bag designs that we wanted.

Happy with our purchase! A couple for Little A to use and some for Big A to give away as gifts
This got me thinking about what I should make in 2017 for the Children….
As like always, I started doing my research online. I was looking through some images on sewing toys using patterned fabrics. I also read samples of ebooks and online articles about sewing fabric toys for gifts and charity. These all got me thinking about bringing out my sewing machine and setting up a proper craft work area with shelves to organise my craft supplies.

Trying out my sewing machine stitches. Trying to get the hang of it…
I was glad my sewing machine still works after I had it set up on my craft work top. It took me almost an hour to figure out its functions again. But the time was well spent. I managed to get back the feel of using my sewing machine again.

Little A aka Mini Me trying out my sewing machine. Not that easy..
Today, I decided to put my plans to work with the supplies I had managed to find in Daiso for my project. It tooked me more than 3 hours to complete today’s project. But I was happy with the outcome.

Works in progress. It was not easy. The first fabric cut out had to be recut as I got the measurements wrong. Some detailed parts are still required to be hand sewn
All done!!

“My Funfair Pony 2017”-Pattern by Melanie Mcneice
I hope the Children will love the Pony. May it be their best friend and ride on together with them. I was glad to have been inspired. It was truly enjoyable to make.
