Tradition

Every Chinese New Year, it is my nuclear family’s tradition to go in search of the year’s Chinese Zodiac Animal. This year, we were looking for a cute Rooster.

Shopping around the various malls, none of the Roosters we saw caught our fancy. With much encouragements from my family, patients’ parents and friends. I decided to try making my own toy Rooster taking reference from Kim’s book of handmade toys with modifications made to the Rooster pattern.

It was tricky sewing the whole Rooster toy by hand using a variety of cotton fabrics to create that patchwork effect. I almost got confused with which fabric cloth pattern was meant for which body part. The seams were made mostly of curves which required to be snipped a little to allow for some fabric leverage. Stuffing the small tight spaces was tougher than usual too but it helped to have a tweezer on hand.

Ultimately, it took me a whole day with breaks in between as I still had housechores to follow up with to complete my first Rooster. I would say it was not easy but with patience and focus and organized labelling techniques. My Rooster came out looking fine.

Look…

Glad to be able to sew on my new Cuddles4Cherish labels onto his feet
